Ulyanovsk translators can take part in the international literary translation workshop in Lviv

The LitTransformer Literary Translation Workshop will be held in Lviv, the UNESCO City of Literature, from May 30 to June 8, 2020.

The workshop is aimed at developing cooperation between literary translators of UNESCO cities of literature. This year's seminar program will be centered around the theme "City Translation" and dedicated to the dialogue of languages ​​and cultures coexisting in cities.

During the workshop, novice and professional translators from UNESCO Cities of Literature will work under the guidance of Aaron Adji, Head of the Master's Program in Literary Translation at the University of Iowa.

The workshop program combines lectures, discussion panels and group sessions that will take place throughout the day. Participants will also be able to work in groups, pairs or on their own. The program provides opportunities to communicate with publishers, agents and colleagues from different countries. In addition, it is planned to publish translations prepared during the seminar.

The workshop is open to two categories of participants from the UNESCO Cities of Literature:

(1) advanced translators and teachers with relevant practical experience;

(2) young aspiring literary translators, professionals or recent graduates of relevant university programs.

Criteria:

- English should not be the native language;

- English proficiency (Advanced or Proficiency level).

How to apply

The workshop is ready to accept up to two participants (one advanced and one beginner literary translator) from each UNESCO City of Literature. The selected candidates are provided with accommodation and meals, the round-trip travel is paid by the translator himself.

The candidate must provide the following documents:

- application;

- motivation letter;

- summary;

- materials for translation

a) no more than three poems (preferably one contemporary poet from your UNESCO City of Literature);

b) drafts-interlinear translations of poems into English;

c) a short biography (maximum one page) of the poet, which discusses the main characteristics of his poetic style and aesthetics.
