Ulyanovsk poet Igor Ulitin took part in the Spring Slam in Kazan
14.04.2021

On April 11, the capital of Tatarstan hosted the Spring Poetry Slam, which was attended by more than 20 poets from Kazan and other cities who passed the correspondence selection. The only Ulyanovsk citizen was the poet Igor Ulitin. Initially, another one of our fellow countrymen, Pavel Votadlos, was selected for the slam, but he could not join the event.

Unlike the Winter Slam, which took place at the National Library of Tatarstan, the Spring Slam took place in the Werk art space.

- A place with a more informal atmosphere than the library was chosen for the slam. After all, once slams originated in bars where poets came to read poetry. And the Spring Slam is more in line with just such a “poetic battle,” said Regina Akhmetova, the main organizer of the slam.

More in line with the art space and the theme of the slam - "Freedom".

In addition to the place, some other changes were made to the slam format. For example, it was preceded by a lecture by the Moscow poet and critic Kirill Markov. And poets who were not included in the number of participants could read their texts during the "open microphone". Otherwise, the format of the slam was the same - in the first round, the participants read poetry to the music they chose. In the second, seven authors selected by the audience, including Igor Ulitin, were already reading in silence. Unfortunately, the Ulyanovsk author did not make it into the top three, but according to him, the main thing is participation and the atmosphere of the slam.

- It's really cool when you can read poetry, looking into the eyes of the audience, and get a response from them, - said Igor.

The next, Summer Slam, will take place on June 6, Pushkin's birthday and Russian Language Day. The theme will be announced in May. Ulyanovsk poets can also send applications for it. The prize for winning the slam is the opportunity to make a video art for one of your own poems. You can follow the news on the project website.

Recall that in February Kazan hosted the Winter Poetry Slam, which was attended by two Ulyanovsk poets - Igor Ulitin and Danila Nozdryakov. Earlier, they told the portal "Ulyanovsk - UNESCO City of Literature" how it was.
