Ulyanovsk Participates in the IV International Poetry and Literature Days in Kahramanmaraş, Turkey

The program includes thematic sections dedicated to UNESCO Cities of Literature, as well as discussions on the topic of the development of youth literature

“The participation of the delegation from Ulyanovsk in the IV International Poetry and Literature Days in Kahramanmaraş will strengthen partnerships with foreign colleagues. Our city will present the key projects implemented by the Ulyanovsk UNESCO City of Literature Directorate to the world literary community. Kahramanmaraş is a Candidate UNESCO City of Literature and is demonstrating great interest in Ulyanovsk’s experience in promoting literature and reading,” noted Elena Toporkova, Head of the Department of Culture and Recreation of the Ulyanovsk Administration.

The literary mega-event will take place in Kahramanmaras from December 7 to 12. The delegation included the Ulyanovsk UNESCO City of Literature Directorate and a student from the Ulyanovsk State Technical University.
Elena Cherkas, the Head of the Ulyanovsk UNESCO City of Literature Directorate,  will present the experience of developing the field of literature and related creative industries within the UCCN to the literary communities of different countries. The presentation will also include the results of work within the UCCN over 8 years - since Ulyanovsk's designation in 2015, international and municipal projects of past years, as well as plans for 2024.  Leila Huseynova, a representative of active student youth, UlSTU student, studying intercultural communications, will perform in a section related to readings of world literature poems in English and Turkish. This will become part of the Directorate's work on interaction between student communities of different countries.

Let us remind you that Ulyanovsk joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in 2015 and was designated a City of Literature. Our city became the first Russian city in this UCCN. The Network currently includes 350 cities in more than one hundred countries.
