November 19 in the library number 8 in Ulyanovsk will be the next meeting of the literary studio "Eight". This time the participants are invited to talk about Evgeny Vodolazkin's book "Laurel".
Evgeny Vodolazkin is a Russian writer and literary critic. Doctor of Philology. According to the Guardian newspaper, Yevgeny Vodolazkin's novel "Laurel" entered the top 10 best books in world literature about God.
In the ranking of the best Russian writers published by Russia Beyond the Headlines, he took 25th place (the highest among living authors).
In 2016, the religious thinker, the 104th Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, dedicated a speech to Vodolazkin's novel Laurus: "A Curious Novel: Postmodernism and Holy Madness" (TEDхOxBridge, 07/05/2016).
According to the Metropolis newspaper, Vodolazkin's novel The Aviator topped the top 10 books published in Romania in 2017. In 2019, the novel "Laurus" became the Book of the Year in Slovakia.
In 2018, the Jagiellonian University hosted the International Scientific Conference "Significant Names of Modern Russian Literature: Evgeny Vodolazkin" (Krakow, May 17-19, 2018), which was attended by 91 researchers from 19 countries of the world.
The novel "Lavr" was awarded several literary prizes: "The Big Book", "Yasnaya Polyana", the Italian-Russian Gorky Prize (Sorrento), etc.
