The citizens' proposals for the improvement of the city were supported in the city competition of creative projects and initiatives in the field of culture "Creative City". This year the competition was held in three nominations: "Literary Marathon", "Literary Art", "Literature in Print".

“We value the involvement of residents in the cultural life of the city, the formation of its everyday image, the creation of a new cultural product or service. The Creative City competition allows us to annually select the best initiatives and implement them,” emphasizes Elena Toporkova, Head of the Department of Culture and the organization of leisure for the population of the administration of the city of Ulyanovsk.

In 2015, Ulyanovsk entered the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, in 2019 - the region was awarded the status of "The Territory of Books and Reading", and 2021 was declared the Year of the Book in the Ulyanovsk Region. The creation of literary pedestrian crossings has become a new creative way to attract the attention of Ulyanovsk residents to the book. Literary pedestrian crossings are located near the city libraries - library number 1 "World of Arts", library number 4 named. E.A. Evtushenko, library number 12 named. IN AND. Dahl, library number 17 "Commonwealth", children's library number 26.

“It is becoming more and more difficult to surprise a modern person with something. But when elements related to literature and books appear in the usual city life, a person involuntarily pays attention to this. The idea is that a pedestrian crossing is subconsciously a symbol of safety for us. And I wanted to to emphasize that the path to the library, the path to the book is the safest path for a person! ", says the author and artist of the project Danila Lapshin.

The Literary Stops project was implemented in the Literary Art nomination.

As the author of the project Olga Midonicheva noted: "2021 has been declared the Year of the Book in the Ulyanovsk region. I am sure that the visualization of literature in the urban space is important and emphasizes the status of Ulyanovsk as a UNESCO literary city."

Literary stops appeared in the Zheleznodorozhny District on Kirov Street, not far from the model Central City Library. I.A. Goncharov and in the Zasviyazhsky district on Tereshkova street, next to the library number 4 named after E.A. Evtushenko.

The city competition of creative projects and initiatives in the field of culture "Creative City" is held by the Department of Culture and Organization of Leisure of the Population of the Administration of the city of Ulyanovsk together with the "Directorate of Ulyanovsk Parks".
