"Hunting for bugs-2020" in Ulyanovsk opened the acceptance of applications
02.03.2020

On March 1, the acceptance of works for the third regional competition of creative works "Hunting for bugs" in Ulyanovsk began. Works are accepted until March 31, and on April 9, the Aksakov Library will host the final of the project.

"Bug Hunt" is a project dedicated to literacy. Contest participants find spelling, grammatical, punctuation, stylistic errors in public space, on city streets, in the media, in advertising, analyze them and submit works in various genres and formats to the jury. Works can be serious and humorous, personal and collective.

The purpose of the project is to draw the attention of the residents of Ulyanovsk and the region, advertisers, officials, journalists to cases of neglect, disrespect for the rules of the Russian language and to influence the correction of the situation.

This year the rules of the competition have changed. It will be held in three categories:

- "Mistakes in advertising and on the streets of the city (pointers, addresses, etc.)";

- "Mistakes in the media and official documents";

- Mistakes in Literature and Cinema.

In each of the nominations, works will be presented in a variety of formats: presentations (slides with a set of errors), videos and free performance (stand-up number, song, theatrical performance, artistic creativity, etc.).

From March 1 to March 31, the contestants send their works to the organizing committee, which selects the strongest works to be presented in the final. April 9 at the library. Aksakov, the final will take place, where the authors of the selected works will have to submit applications to the jury. The jury consists of philologists, journalists, public figures, entrepreneurs, famous people in the region and winners of last year's competitions.

The competition traditionally has great support from the media and bloggers, public organizations, entrepreneurs, and receives a wide media response.

The finalists and winners of the "Bug Hunt" competition receive diplomas, as well as valuable prizes from the sponsors and partners of the project (the prize for the first place in each nomination is 3,000 rubles in monetary terms).

The final of the competition includes not only the presentation of competitive works, but also a concert by Ulyanovsk independent musicians, a discussion about the current state of the Russian language, a prize draw, etc.

In 2020, in addition to presenting the works of the finalists, the competition will end with an after-party at the legendary House of Culture bar, where the works of the winners of the competition and the most ridiculous, blatant and ridiculous examples of errors found on the streets of the city and elsewhere will be shown.

The story of Bug Hunt began in 2016. On September 8, the International Literacy Day, a photo walk was held along the central streets of Ulyanovsk, the participants of which were looking for errors in outdoor advertising. Then the project took place in other formats: meetings in schools and libraries, excursions through the streets of the city and, of course, competitions of creative works.
