December 15th. Opening of the exhibition of illustrations by Sergei Alimov for the poem "Dead Souls"

On December 15, an exhibition of illustrations by People's Artist of the Russian Federation Sergei Alimov to Gogol's poem "Dead Souls" will open in Ulyanovsk.

Sergei Alimov (1938-2019) - Soviet and Russian cartoonist, graphic artist. Corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Arts (1991), professor at VGIK (1994), full member of the Russian Academy of Arts (2002); People's Artist of the Russian Federation (1999); laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation (2002), member of the Russian Academy of Cinematographic Arts.

In 1953-1957 he studied at the Moscow Secondary Art School (MSHSH), in 1957-1963 - at the Art and Production Department of VGIK. Trained at the studio "Zagreb-Film". His teachers were Yuri Ivanovich Pimenov, Boris Nikolaevich Yakovlev, Ivan Petrovich Ivanov-Vano.

In 1962-1974 he worked at the Soyuzmultfilm film studio as a production designer, collaborated with Fyodor Savelyevich Khitruk, Valentin Alexandrovich Karavaev. In 1988-1991 - Secretary of the Board of the Union of Artists of the USSR. Since 1994 he has been a professor at VGIK, since 1999 he has been the chief artist of the Obraztsov State Academic Central Puppet Theater.

Art director of a number of performances at the Moscow Satire Theater, the Mossovet Theatre, the SV Obraztsov Puppet Theater and other drama and puppet theaters.

In his work he used the technique of translation. Author of illustrations for more than 100 books, including "Dead Souls" by N. V. Gogol ("Vita Nova", 2013), "Lord Golovlyovs" by M. E. Saltykov-Shchedrin, "The History of a City" by M. E. Saltykov -Shchedrin ("Vita Nova", 2010), "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen".

He taught at VGIK (formerly at the Moscow Art Theater School and the Natalia Nesterova Academy).

Passed away December 17, 2019.

The opening of the exhibition will take place as part of the Cultural Dialogue: Meetings in the Provinces program. Organizer - MBUK "Centralized Library Association" with the support of the Russian Cultural Foundation and the Department of Culture and Leisure of the Population of the Administration of the City of Ulyanovsk. This is a cultural and educational program for the residents of the city of Ulyanovsk, within the framework of which a series of cultural events and meetings will take place.
