Dahl's Dictionary of Simbirsk words will be presented in Ulyanovsk

On June 30, 2020 at 15.30 in the city library No. 24 named after Pushkin, a presentation of the regional explanatory dictionary of Simbirsk words by V.I. Dal, created as part of the city network action "Simbirsk linguists". The action to compile such a dictionary was the first such action in Russia.

The Explanatory Dictionary of the Living Great Russian Language by Vladimir Ivanovich Dahl contains many original Simbirsk words. Some he heard and recorded himself, others were told to him by Simbirsk correspondents. In the dictionary, they are marked with the letters "smb", "symb". There are also words in the dictionary marked by the Simbirsk correspondent Naumov.

The action, founded by the Department of Culture and Leisure of the Population of the Administration of Ulyanovsk, started on January 22, 2020. The organizer of the action was the library №12 named after V.I. Dahl, and the well-known local historian from Ulyanovsk, associate professor of ULGU, Sergey Borisovich Petrov, became the initiator.

The action was attended by 112 citizens - readers of city libraries, schoolchildren, students, teachers, kindergarten teachers and all lovers of the Russian language. A total of 338 words were found. For the search, not only the 4-volume edition of the dictionary by V.I. Dahl, but also an online dictionary.

- Our dictionary will undoubtedly become a great help to school teachers, it will be useful for students, philologists and lovers of the Russian language, - Olga Slepova, director of the Centralized Library System of Ulyanovsk, emphasizes.

After the presentation, the Dictionary of Simbirsk words will be posted on the CLS website. In the future, the search for words will continue.

Simbirsk words found by the participants in Dahl's dictionary and having historical and linguistic value will be reflected in the Dahl's Wall art object.
