Today in the heading "Book for the summer" - recommendations of the Ulyanovsk poet, journalist and photographer Igor Ulitin. Read on the portal "Ulyanovsk - UNESCO City of Literature".
- My favorite literary direction is everything related to history, be it historical novels or documentary popular science works. Therefore, for the summer, I will recommend two history books, - says Igor Ulitin.

"Wars of Suzdal Rus", Mikhail Eliseev
The first recommendation is the popular science book "Wars of Suzdal Rus" by Mikhail Eliseev. I myself jokingly call it "Games of Thrones" in the Russian manner. And all because the era between Yaroslav the Wise and the Mongol invasion in our history is perhaps the most confusing. The princes went on campaigns against each other, took and burned cities, then they were friends against common enemies - and so for almost 200 years.
Probably, when we studied this at school, few of us tried to understand all these Olegs, Igor, Izyaslavs and other Yuri Dolgoruky. Why did they seize Kiev every now and then? What Vladimir and Novgorod could not share, although, it would seem, the Russians lived there and there? Why, if the Polovtsians were enemies, did the princes take Polochanians as wives? The Wars of Suzdal Rus provide an answer to these questions. Moreover, in a very simple form. "Wars of Suzdal Rus" by Mikhail Eliseev is a historical scholarly topic as it should be.

The novel "I have come to give you freedom", Vasily Shukshin
Perhaps this is the main work in the life of an outstanding writer, actor and director. And no one conveyed the story of Stepan Razin in a work of fiction better than Shukshin. I say this with confidence, because a person has read more than one book about it.
For the residents of Ulyanovsk, “I have come to give you freedom” is also a reason to read about your city once again. Indeed, without Stepan Razin, the history of Ulyanovsk / Simbirsk / Sinbirsk is impossible.
And, of course, one cannot fail to say about the liveliness of the Shukshin language. When you read the novel, you get the feeling that Vasily Makarovich had a time machine and he himself managed to take part in the Razin peasant war on the side of the rebels. So, when you read “I have come to give you free rein,” keep yourself in control. After the phrase “Now take revenge on your rascals! I came to give you free rein "I want to shout" Saryn to the kichka! "
