This year would mark the 100th anniversary of the outstanding prose writer and playwright Friedrich Dürrenmatt. He translated a lot into Russian, his crime novels and stories were published and are being published in huge circulations, his plays were and are staged in many theaters. But for almost 15 years in the Soviet Union, he was in disgrace and was actually banned.

Alexander Genis, writer, literary critic, journalist and host of the podcast "Genis: A View from New York", Efim Shuman, writer, literary columnist, and Tobias Privitelli, Minister, Deputy Ambassador of Switzerland to Russia, will discuss what attracted the pessimist Dürrenmatt to the USSR and what attracts now.

The moderator of the meeting is Natalia Bakshi, professor, deputy head of the department of German philology at the Institute of Philology, Russian State University for the Humanities, licentiate of theology, associate professor, doctor of philological sciences, specialist in the history and literature of Switzerland.
